What is the Amazing Shake?

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we emphasize teaching students manners, discipline, respect, and how to conduct him or herself in a professional environment.  Our Amazing Shake competition, modeled after the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, GA, allows students to demonstrate their ability to exhibit poise, engage in conversations and solve problems under pressure.  The program aims to prepare students for future success by honing their social and interpersonal skills in a fun and supportive environment.

This year (24-25), all OLL 6th and 7th grade students will participate in The Amazing Shake. They are currently preparing for the event.

We are currently planning for 3 days of events. The 1st day will include The Gauntlet Round and The Circle of Doom.  The 90 students who participate in The Gauntlet will be whittled down to a top 20 who will compete in the Work the Room Challenge. Then the top 10 will participate in a mock interview. Finally, the top 3 will have a luncheon with local business leaders. The winner will be determined from the luncheon.

Yes! Volunteers from the community are essential for The Amazing Shake!  We need judges to score the students, and we also need parent volunteers to help event run smoothly.  Please contact Melanie Reardon or Marisa Trible for more information.

The Gauntlet is a fast paced rotation of events where the students have to think on their feet and improvise to demonstrate different skills.

You may need to portray someone other than yourself as part of the scenario at the Gauntlet.  You will also be responsible for judging the students as they rotate through the Gauntlet.

You will be engaging in small talk or a mock interview with the students. You are responsible for judging the students with whom you speak.

As a judge, business casual clothing is appropriate.

As a parent volunteer, jeans or business casual clothing is appropriate.

Ideally, we would like different volunteers for each round of events:
Rounds 1 & 2 – Wed. Jan. 29; time commitment 3 hours (9:45 – 12:30) – this round involves all 90 students.
Round 3 – Thursday, Jan. 30; about 45 minutes (9 – 9:45)
Round 4 – Thursday, Jan. 30; about 1 hour (10 – 11)
Round 5 – Friday, Jan. 31; lunch with top 3; about 1.25 hours (11:45 – 1:00)
