house system: A panorama of the student body, sorted into their houses by color

Stemming from a concept created by schools in England, every student is sorted into a House where they will remain for all of their Lourdes years. Houses generally meet three times a month for activities centered on relationship building, service, and teamwork.

The benefits of a house system are the enhanced opportunities to build relationships with students and teachers, a sense of community in being part of a smaller family within one large school, and for every student to have an adult advocate to provide guidance when needed.

Each elementary student is paired with an older prayer buddy, which ends up being the sweetest relationship in our entire school, who sits with them at Mass, visits their classroom for reading, and in general serves as a good mentor. Middle school students have the opportunity to participate in planning for meetings and events as part of the House Council.

Each of our houses is derived from the Latin word for our discipleship traits – Courage (Fortitudo), Hope (Ancora), Respect (Dignatio), Integrity (Probitas), Service (Ministerium), and Thankfulness (Gratia), which together spell out CHRIST.

TEstimonials for our school:

The Ayers family

We made the switch to Lourdes in the Fall of 2018 as West, now 14, was beginning middle school and Addie, now 7, starting kindergarten. We live close by and had several neighborhood kids attend Lourdes, so with both kids starting new chapters it was the right time to make a move and with them six years apart, it was important they attend a K-8 school together for these few years. At first my husband who is not Catholic, was not interested, but upon touring and seeing the sticker that reads “we are an inclusive school” on the door as you enter, we knew we were in the right place. What we love most about Lourdes is the community of students, parents, teachers, staff and Parish coming together to support each other. It is truly a family we are proud to be a part of, especially at the events like The Bull Roast and Filipino Festival. Outside of school our kids love hanging with their great friends they’ve met at school. This year they are looking forward to hopefully getting back to more of the planned activities like sports, socials and 8th grade graduation. We are so glad we made the switch to Lourdes! Not only is the education excellent, which is a key factor in choosing a school, but the bonus is Our Lady of Lourdes has enriched our family in so many more ways than we could have imagined.
