Bringing Warmth to our Community this Winter

The faculty, staff, parents, and students at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School have always believed that love is an action word. Making a difference in the world is at the heart of our mission.

New socks are one of the items that shelters need most but are donated the least. Socktober was created by the team behind the Kid President series in 2011 to bring awareness and aid to the homeless population. For years, the Lourdes community has taken the Socktober challenge to make a difference in the Richmond area.

Our students shattered their goal of donating 4,000 pairs of socks this year! For the last two weeks, our students collected 5,193 pairs of socks to be donated to Laura’s Closet at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Blessing Warriors RVA, two organizations that support people in need in our community. The leading grade (3rd) in the final count collected 820 pairs!

In a world that needs so much healing in so many different ways, we are proud that our community actively seeks to make a positive difference through spreading courage, hope, respect, integrity, service, and thankfulness to all of our neighbors.“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10).
