It Takes a Village

Richmond (VA)— Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School had a remarkable year on many levels, from continuous in-person learning during a pandemic, to a record number of grants received.

The Emily S. and Coleman A. Hunter Charitable Trust seeks to help healthcare and educational organizations in Virginia. The Trust granted Lourdes $10,000 for the third year in a row, which was used towards the purchase of a SMARTboard for the art room and new servers.

The Adele A. and Harold J. Westbrook Foundation provides funding for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational needs. We are grateful for the $1,500 they donated to offset some of our COVID-related expenses.

The Koch Foundation, one of the largest Catholic foundations in the United States, has a long history of financially supporting Catholic institutions worldwide. The foundation, upon the recommendation of Bishop Knestout, awarded Lourdes with $10,000 in additional student financial aid for the 2021-22 school year. We are thankful that these additional funds are available to families who need them!

The American Academy of Dermatology‘s Shade Structure program has awarded over 400 grants in the last two decades to help protect children from the sun. The AAD is gifting us with a permanent shade, valued at almost $8,000, for the playground, to be installed this summer. We are grateful for this much needed respite from the sun!

The RECO Foundation supports food banks and health clinics and organizations involved with historic preservation, education, cancer, temporary housing, youth, and family services. We are thankful for the $1,000 they donated to offset some of our COVID-related expenses. Weyerhaeuser supports organizations in the communities where their employees live and work. This year, they gifted us with $5,000 to be used towards the upgrade to our intercom system, which will be installed this summer.

We just received $200 from Aldi in support of our running club, which will be used for refreshments next year.

The Diocese of Richmond provided extra funding in several areas this year- a prize on Giving Tuesday, tuition assistance from the Office of Black Catholics, and a marketing grant. We are grateful for all of their support!

It truly takes a village of amazing educators, wonderful parents, fabulous students, and generous community partners to have a successful school! We are thankful to have all of them on our team, especially during this unique school year. For more on how you can make a difference at Lourdes, please visit our Support page.
