In the 2023-24 school year, our running club celebrated both its 8th birthday and new milestones. Almost 200 students (and a number of parents and teachers!) participate in our running club at some point during the school year. Through this noncompetitive program, we encourage healthy exercise, goal setting, and a noncompetitive experience for all.
While the program is free to participants and the accomplishment of distance running should be its own intrinsic reward, we provide recognition to students for staying active. Runners receive a token for each 14 laps (approximately one mile) that they complete and a larger prize after each “marathon” of 100 laps.
For the third consecutive year, Ella Dove set a school record for distance run. Mrs. Ferrick set a new teacher lap record.
This year, the club as a group ran the farthest we ever have- 30,762 laps, or 8,202 miles. This equates to running to the North Pole and back!
Run, Lourdes, Run!
